Geography
Map
For hundreds of years, Brazil has symbolized the great escape into a primordial, tropical paradise, igniting the imagination like no other South American country. From the wild fervor of Carnival to the immensity of the Amazon, it is a country of mythic proportions and staggering beauty. Its people are the essence of the country, delighting visitors with their energy and passion. With a multitude of ethnic groups, Brazil’s landscape is as diverse as its people. Few tourists venture far from its spectacular beaches, yet a trip into the interior reveals a different Brazil, one with a great deal to offer. The diversity of people and places makes Brazil an outstanding destination.

Brazilian surface of 8.511.965 km2, represents almost half of South America, a larger area than the European continent itself. Only 0.65% of its territory is covered by rivers and lagoons, despite the small percentage, Brazil possesses one of the biggest affluent rivers of the world, the Amazon River.

Due to its immense extension, Brazil borders with almost all the South American countries, except Chile and Ecuador. One of the main attractions is the sunny beaches, 7,408 kilometers of warm Atlantic Ocean.

This territorial amplitude includes also other geographical beauties, such as the open pasture, caatinga, the Amazonian Forest and the Pantanal.

On its five different geographical regions –North, Northeast, West-Central, South and Southeast-, this country offers many touristical options.

In the North Region we find the vibrant city of Manaus and the fabulous Amazon River, the largest river in the word due its water volume.

In the Northeast Region the beautiful cities of Fortaleza and Natal, Recife and Salvador, with astonishing beaches.

The Southeast Region has the highest population density in Brazil, with more than 42% of country’s total inhabitants. The most important cities are here: Sao Paulo, the financial capital and Rio de Janeiro, the main gate to the country, known world-wide for its beaches and its carnival.

In the Southern Region: the cities of Florianopolis and Torres with beautiful beaches. The Iguassu Falls are also found here, one of the most exuberant water falls on earth.

In the West-Central Region is located Brasilia, the modern capital city, also the state of Mato Grosso and in it, the Pantanal: a very important wild life reserve of the planet.
