Flirting with the Andes
DAY 16: PUERTO NATALES.

Today, after enjoying breakfast at Hotel, you will be taken on a full day excursion to Balmaceda and Serrano Glaciers.

This region of the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park is located 31 miles northwest of the city of Puerto Natales and forms part of the Andes Mountain Chain. Visiting this place gives you the unique opportunity to admire a majestic landscape, untouched by mankind. It can only be accessed by

crossing the Last Hope Inlet. The excursion begins in Puerto Natales, and during the trip you will have the chance to observe the typical flora (Evergreen, cinnamon tree, lenga, Antarctic beech, wild fuchsia, Calafate) and fauna (sea lions, cormorants, Quetru ducks, condors, sea gulls), of the Fjords.

The ship sails along the coastline as it approaches the sea lion colony, rocky nesting place for this sea creature. Finally, we arrive to Mt. Balmaceda, 2,035 m (6,674 ft) high, where the Balmaceda Glacier is located.

Immense chunks of ice often break off the Glacier and crash into the fjord waters. The Serrano Glacier is located on the northern side of the mountain and you can arrive on land next to a small lagoon formed by the thawing and loosening of the icebergs from the glacial mass.
