DAY 10: PURMAMARCA / JUJUY / SALTA.

Breakfast at Hotel.

Today you will visit Jujuy.

Jujuy spreads over a vast archaeological bed where rupestrian art, paintings and engravings on rocks are a testimony to human groups that inhabited the area 9000 years ago. The Incas settled along the Andes and their influence is very noticeable in Jujuy. The combination of pre-hispanic cultures with the more recent colonization by the Spanish crown has left a remarkable historical wealth, present in buildings, religious celebrations, art and music.

This city was founded on April 19th, 1593 by Francisco de Argañaraz y Murguía. It is surrounded by mountains within the triangle made up by the tall herbaceous of Nieva and the rivers Xibi-Xibi and Grande.

Right from this place, the ravine of Humahuaca begins to ascend; a natural climbing path to the Puna, with grounds of changing tones that range from blue to red.

Its modern buildings alternate with others of colonial style. The city has a quite active commercial centre where you can purchase regional articles.

Walking around its neighborhoods, you will get to know about its people's customs and environments, its uneven streets, and the big old houses with grating windows and flowered yards.

Whenever there is a religious festivity, people from these places walk down the mountains making up parades and playing music with typical local instruments.

Dinner at local Restaurant.

Overnight at Hotel of your choice in Salta.
