DAY 08: SALTA/SAN ANTONIO DE LOS COBRES/SALINAS GRANDES/PURMAMARCA
After breakfast you will be taken to San Antonio de los Cobres is known for being a forced stop for the Tren a las Nubes (Cloud-Bound Train). It stands at 3744 metres above sea level and owes its name to the famous Sierra de Cobre (Copper Sierra), rich in this mineral, overlooking the surroundings.
 
The town offers itself with all of its legendary splendour and mineral richness. Its indigenous physiognomy catches the eye for its simple type of architecture and its surrounding scenery.
 

Salinas Grandes

3200 square mile salt desert, at 3350 mts. of altitude.
 
It’s a huge salt surface made of 30 cm thick layer crust. You can drive, ride or walk on it.
 
The place is sunny, silent and windy.
