Iquitos

Iquitos, the capital of Loreto department, is located in the north zone of the Amazon region. It is a land of dense vegetation and exuberant jungles, surrounded by the majestic Amazon River. The important Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is found here, it is considered the most extensive of Peru and the fourth of South America.
Iquitos is a beautiful landscape of typical houses and neighborhoods as Belen and native towns. You may share the traditional customs of these communities who live away from modernity. And don’t miss the beautiful beaches in the border of the lakes and rivers as Tunchi playa, in Quistococha Lake, Santa Clara and Santo Tomas in Nanay River.

Iquitos is also the land of parties and carnivals, the most important is the popular San Juan party (celebrated in June) in honor to San Juan Bautista who symbolizes the water, the vital element of the Amazon region.
Another city attraction is the Hanging Bridges found in areas surrounding some of the lodges. These are small walks constructed in treetops, from where you can see the jungle flora and fauna close at hand.
Furthermore, important cruise lines (with all comforts) sailing on various Peruvian jungle rivers as well as on to cities in Colombia and Brazil, anchor in Iquitos.
