Geography
Land of wonderful contrasts and abundant hills, it also has a vast extension of beaches renewed by modern resorts. This country has become a model for other South American countries due to its high quality of life and excellent social services.
If you desperately need to relax on your next trip and just rest for hours by the beach, Uruguay is the right place for you.

Even though its beaches are serene and beautiful, there are also many other suggestive attractions to please you.
Uruguay is internationally known for its bird watching. You may take a trip with a local birding expert and see some of the most diverse fowl in South America; or spend your time in the capital city of Montevideo, enjoying its charming architecture and clean streets and the experience to feel welcome and safe; or let you fascinate by the glamour of the city of Punta del Este.

In Rocha the ocean is a spectacle itself. On the other side of the country, the thermal bath of the Dayman and Arapey will invite you to immerse in its warm waters of 38º to 45º C, a unique experience and completely revitalizing. All these combined with nature and fresh air, great ranches and a very well developed rural and ecologic tourism are many of the options this little country has to offer.
The total surface of Uruguay is 176,215 square kilometers featuring soft undulations. Without high mountains or large plains, the scenery is dominated by a pen plain with rolling plateaus crossed by water courses. Mount Cathedral is 514 meters high. It is the highest point in the country and it rules over a low range of hills which stands out in the landscape.

The large rivers that flow into the Atlantic Ocean make up a plentiful network in which four river basins stand out: the Rio de la Plata, the Uruguay River, the Merín Lagoon, and the Negro River. These water bodies and their stream are important communication waterways, fresh water sources and power generators.
Its strategic geopolitical location encourages integration, as this is the gate to the Plata basin and a bridge between the country and its big neighbors, Argentina and Brazil. Furthermore, it has an easy communication way with the rest of the world.
The 450 kilometers of coastline along the Rio de la Plata and 220 kilometers of sea coast on the Atlantic turn Uruguayan sandy beaches into a beautiful attraction for many travelers.
